Tavoitteet

The thesis is a research and/or development project designed to serve working life. It stresses practical application and supports the student’s career development. The thesis is based on innovative knowledge production that is used to combine documented experiential information gained through development activities and a scientific approach. The thesis can constitute a project, a study or a development task where the application of theoretical knowledge, innovativeness and the deepening of professional expertise hold key positions.
After the course, master student demonstrates the ability to apply research information and use selected methods to specify and solve problems in working life as well as the ability to perform independent and demanding expert work. Master student is able to apply scientific knowledge in his master’s thesis, and to use selected methods in analysis and problem solving. Master’s thesis is a project or applied research developing working life. Master student is ready for independent and demanding expert work.

Process and procedures for the master's thesis.
Master's thesis topic and statement of the thesis problem as as a proposal.
Drafting and presentation of the master's thesis plan.
Source-critical information retrieval.
Academic writing and the formulation of a theoretical framework. Realisation/production of the thesis.
Reporting of the thesis.
Written, verbal or visual disclosure of the thesis results and their publication within a community of experts.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

An approved thesis proposal. A partnership agreement with the assignor. An approved master's thesis plan and theoretical framework. A report of the information sources used appended to the master's thesis plan. Thesis seminars/workshops or webinars/on-line workshops.Evaluation of the thesis: Self-evaluation / evaluation of the student's own learning. Possible peer review statement. Possible assignor statement. Final assessment of the Master’s thesis has been done by the Master’s Thesis Work Group. The thesis includes a maturity test that will be graded pass / fail. Success requires an approved thesis maturity test.

The Master’s thesis is evaluated summatively following its completion and presentation, on a five-point scale according to thesis-specific criteria: 5 (Excellent), 4 (Very good), 3 (Good), 2 (Satisfactory) and 1 (Adequate). The evaluation criteria for the thesis are published on the jamk.fi/en Web site.
