Learning objectives: 1. I can apply key knowledge and skills required in gerontological nursing using reliable, evidence-based knowledge. 2. I can plan, implement and evaluate the overall care of the gerontological patient/client in an ethical and safe manner, promoting the health and well-being of the older client. 3. be able to make decisions and work independently as a gerontological nurse in a multidisciplinary team. 4. Content scheduling
1. Evidence-based and ethical gerontological care. 2. Client and patient safety. 3. Promoting the health and functional capacity of older people. The content covers nutrition, assessment of functional capacity using the RAI assessment, support for physical activity and functional capacity, service guidance, support for mental wellbeing, and the use of technology and robotics in the care of older people. 4. Caring for older people with memory impairment. 5. specific issues in care of the elderly, including: medication management of the elderly, care in emergency care settings, specific aspects of care for the rehabilitation of the elderly person with sensory impairment. 6. The elderly client in palliative care.
Objective
Student is able to master the key knowledge and skills required for the gerontological nurse's work, be able to make decisions and work independently as a nurse. Student is capable to work in collaboration with older adults, their families to support healthy aging, maximum functioning, and quality of life. Student is able to plan, implement and evaluate gerontological patient`s nursing ethically and safely using reliable evidence-based information. Student is able to work as a member of the interprofessional gerontological team during the nursing process. Student is able to evaluate his/her own skills and develop his/her own professional acting in a goal-oriented manner.
Content
Individual and social challenges of health promotion among the elderly; preventive nursing; recovery support and clinical nursing. National programmes and recommendations. Nurses¿ proficiency in the promotion of well-being among the elderly in multiprofessional and multidisciplinary networks. The process of gerontological nursing practises and services; recording. Counselling, education, creative activities and clinical skills in gerontological nursing. Medical technology. Current, special issues in gerontological nursing.

Teaching methods
The course is delivered entirely online, on the Moodle platform in a non-stop format. The compulsory deliverables, the computer tests and the numerically assessed assignment, are described on the course's Moodle platform
Exam schedules
The numerically assessed assignment for the course is returned to the Moodle feedback box.
Student workload
Students can complete their studies at their own pace within 3 months after logging in to the Moodle platform. The course is 5 credits, i.e. 135 hours of student work.
Qualifications
Student has passed 140 cu studies in degree programme of nursing including studies and practical training in person-centered elderly care.
