Objective

On completion of the course, the student will, - be able to use FEM software in practical design tasks as a mechanical designer - be able to create a simulation model of a structure based on CAD geometry for FE analysis - be able to perform simple linear static analyses on a structure and be able to analyse the stress and displacement results produced by the software The student will also strengthen his/her computer aided design skills, analysis skills and technical reporting skills.

Content

- familiarisation with the structure of FEA software - basic concepts of the element method: element mesh, element, node, degree of freedom - simplification and preprocessing of geometry - element types - Linear elastic analysis - Boundary conditions and loads - solution and discussion of results
