Evaluation methods and criteria

Successful completion of the course consists of the following components: Reading and studying the material Two examinations, each requiring at least 70% correct answers to pass. You may take each examination three times. The highest score will be recorded. Once you have reached the passing threshold in the examinations, the course will be marked as completed (1 ECTS).

Objective

Qualitative User Research: An independently completed online course introducing the interview method. The method helps to understand users’ daily lives, experiences, and meanings to support design.

Content

Module 1: What is an interview? You will learn what a qualitative interview is, when it is used, and how it differs from other qualitative user research methods. Module 2: Design and implementation (opens in January 2026) This module covers key principles and practical considerations for planning and conducting qualitative interviews, including interview structure and practical implementation. Module 3: Analysing the material (opens in January 2026) This module focuses on analysing interview material and how insights from interviews can be used in design and development work.

Location and time

In Moodle, independently accessible, non-stop implementation. During 20 December 2025 - 31 May 2027.

All materials are included in the course resources.

Teaching methods

An online course on the Moodle platform to be completed independently and at one’s own pace.

Exam schedules

You may retake the exams three times.

Student workload

1 ECTS credit requires approximately 27 hours of work. Around 24 hours are allocated for assignments and a maximum of 3 hours for exam questions.

Qualifications

The course does not address the fundamentals of qualitative research, so basic knowledge of qualitative research is recommended.
