Evaluation methods and criteria

All coursework must be completed by the given deadlines. Any concerns about completing coursework by the given deadlines due to scheduling issues with work and/or other studies should be discussed with the teacher at the beginning of the course or well in advance of assignment deadlines. Objective

Proficiency level: B2 Students are able to - communicate clearly and effectively in different generic and field-specific work place situations both orally and in writing - find, evaluate and use information effectively - function collaboratively in international working environments.

Content

English for Professional Development (Business) is an introductory-level course designed to help students strengthen their English skills in professional contexts both orally and in writing. Through three core modules, students will practice function collaboratively in international working environments: workplace communication (e.g. emails, meetings and negotiations), business planning, and presentation skills. The course is taught at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Location and time

Students are not required to attend any lessons online or on campus. There will be one introductory lesson at the beginning of the course, but participation is optional. All work is delivered through Moodle, and guidance is provided on the work to be completed as well as deadlines for the work.

Materials

All learning material will be provided by the teacher through Moodle. Some materials may need to be accessed through the LUT Library by logging in with student credentials.

Teaching methods

Teacher: Thomas Wishart Online 100% - This course is for LUT University students (not LAB students) and suitable for those students who are combining work and studies. (Exception can be granted for LAB exchange students only). This is an online course taught through Moodle. There are no regular lessons for this course and all work is completed by students independently. There will be one introductory lesson at the beginning of the course, but participation is optional. All work is delivered through Moodle, and guidance is provided on the work to be completed as well as deadlines for the work.
