Objective

Upon completion of the course you will be able to:
Critically review, analyze and understand information available from academic and professional sport business and relevant legal sources for sport organisations.

Apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to analyze business challenges and trends to propose managerial solutions or take actions based on the findings. You are able to apply concepts and processes in a relevant manner in sport organisations in the unique sport business context.

Communicate responsibly, effectively and professionally in English in oral and written formats.
Participate in inter- and multicultural settings and demonstrate teamwork skills.

Understand issues of ESR (Ethical, Sustainable and Responsible conduct) and find their meaningful applications in the business practices and decision-making in legal issues and disputes.

Content

An introduction to key aspects in sport management, such as sport commercialization, governance, organizational structures and strategies, human and volunteer resource management, internationalization and entrepreneurship and the specific features of sport business environment.

Teaching methods

Opintojakso koostuu lähiopetusjaksoista, jotka sijoittuvat opintojakson alkuun ja loppuun. Lähiopetusjaksojen välillä opiskelija suorittaa opintoja virtuaalisina etäopintoina hyödyntäen koulun virtuaalioppimisympäristöä.

Lähiopetusjaksoilla sovelletaan flipped-learning menetelmää. Lähiopetusjaksoihin valmistaudutaan ennakkomateriaalin pohjalta, joka toimii valmentavana ja johdattelevana aineistona lähiopetusjakson aiheisiin. Lähiopetusjaksojen välisen ajan opiskelija tekee opintoja virtuaalisesti verkko-oppimisympäristössä.

Opintojakson aikana opiskelija tutkii ja perehtyy hyvinvoinnin, urheilun ja liikunnan toimintaympäristön johtamismenetelmiin ja tarkastelee johtamiseen liittyviä ilmiöitä valitsemansa hyvinvoinnin, urheilun tai liikunnan organisaation viitekehyksessä. Opiskelijan oppimista arvoidaan yksilötehtävän (50 %) sekä oppimispäiväkirjan (50 %) kautta. Lisäksi opiskelija tekee itsearvioinnin opintojakson lopussa.

Employer connections

Henkilökohtainen yksilötehtävä pyritään sitomaan hyvinvoinnin, urheilun ja liikunnan toimialalla operoivan organisaation kehittämiseen opiskelijan oman työyhteisön tai opiskelijan oman toimeksiannon kautta.

Student workload

Yksi opintopiste vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Opintojakson kokonaiskuormittavuus on yhteensä noin 135 tuntia (5 opintopistettä).

Opiskelijan kuormittavuus opintojaksolla jakautuu seuraavasti:
Lähiopetusjaksot (mukaan lukien ennakkovalmistautuminen) 30 tuntia
Itsenäinen virtuaaliopiskelu 50 tuntia
Yksilötehtävä ja oppimispäiväkirja 55 tuntia

Adequate 1
You show some ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant to sport organisations and sport business.
You show some but narrow skills in analyzing business challenges and trends related to sport organisations and propose managerial implications.
You are able to transmit to a limited extent your and your team’s ideas and findings in the given language
You show some but low-level skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
You are able to identify and assess some very basic ESR -related issues and discuss superficially their applications related to sport organizations.

Satisfactory 2
You show basic ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant to sport organisations and sport business.
You show skills in analyzing business challenges and trends related to sport organisations and can propose managerial implications but the approach is not supported with argumentation.
You are able to transmit basic communications when presenting your and your team’s ideas and findings in the given language but improvement would be needed.
You show some skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
You are able to identify and assess some ESR-related issues related to legal issues and the action related to them and discuss some of their applications related to sport organizations.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3
You show ability to analyze and evaluate business data and consider possible approaches and outcomes for sport organisations and sport business.
You show the average-level skills in analyzing business challenges and trends related to related to sport organizations and can propose viable solutions for arising problems.
You are able to present your and your team’s ideas and findings in a clear manner in the given language
You show skill in participating in a productive way in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
You are able to identify and assess deeply and widely the ESR-related issues and to discuss their meaningful applications related to sport organizations.

Very Good 4
You show very good ability to analyze and evaluate possible outcomes related to sport organisations and sport business.
You show skills with merit in analyzing business challenges and trends related to sport organisations proposing practical solutions for arising problems.
You are able to present your and you’re your team’s ideas and findings in a very good manner in the given language on a level above average of your peers.
You are able to show in a very good manner skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and demonstrate teamwork skills.
Student are able to identify on a very good width and depth the ESR-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications related to sport organizations.
