Objective

You understand the significance of distributed and renewables energy solutions in the climate change and sustainable development point of view.
You know the energy consumption of buildings and can design renewable energy solutions.
You also know the heating, cooling and air conditioning systems in buildings

Knowledge and understanding
You are familiar with the energy use of buildings and can examine it computationally. You know the most important design principles of building energy solutions.

Applying technology to practice
You can apply computational analysis to the design and costs of solutions for an example building.

Communication and teamwork
You will learn to work in a team, share your own expertise with other team members and communicate about the technical solutions and computational analysis of buildings.

Content

Energy consumption, energy efficiency and basics of heating and air conditioning systems.
Distributed renewable energy production, like heat pumps, solar energy, geothermal energy,bioenergy.
District heating solutions.
Cooling energy production and district cooling.
Connecting distributed energy production to networks.

Luennot, itsenäinen opiskelu ja harjoitustyöt. kaikki harjoitustyöt tehdään ryhmätyönä.

Tentti huhtikuussa. Tentissä on kaksi uusimismahdollisuutta.

Muulla tavoin hankittu osaaminen opinnollistetaan opintojakson opettajan kanssa.

Student workload

Oppimistyötä yhteensä 135 h.
Opetustunnit 40 h (etäopiskelu ja tallenteet), lähipäivien tunnit 10 h, oppimistehtävät n. 70 h, muu itsenäinen opiskelu 15 h.

You are able to analyze the energy consumption of properties to some extent and preliminarily dimension renewable energy solutions for them. In addition, you are able to report on your reviews to some extent.

Satisfactory (2): You know and can describe some of the energy solutions for properties. You are able to examine and analyze the energy consumption of the property and preliminarily dimension renewable energy solutions for it and examine their costs. In addition, you are able to report on the solutions and calculations, but your reporting has clear shortcomings.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You know and can describe some of the heating energy solutions for properties. You can examine and analyze the energy consumption of the property and dimension renewable energy solutions for it and examine their costs. In addition, you can report reasonably clearly and understandably.

Excellent (4): You know and can describe the energy solutions for properties. You can examine and analyze the energy consumption of the property and dimension renewable energy solutions for it, make cost comparisons between different solutions and report on them understandably and illustratively.

You know and can well describe the most important energy solutions for buildings. You can examine and analyze the energy consumption of a building, dimension renewable energy solutions for it, make reliable cost comparisons and report on them understandably and illustratively.
