Objective

The object of this course:
In this course you will learn to recognise the strategic targets of the organisation and procurement. You identify the cost, risk and value in purchasing management. In addition you begin to understand the Basic tools of purchasing management and recognise the impact of purchasing to the organisations sustainability targets.

The course competences:
EUR-ACE Engineering practice: You understand the role of purchasing as part of the company's strategic management.

EUR-ACE Engineering Analysis: You can develop purchasing holistically as part of strategic management.

EUR-ACE Transferable Skills: You see the potential and the risks of purchasing in relation to strategic business objectives.

Content

In this course you study the following topics:
Strategic management
Cost, risk and value in purchasing management
Category management and organisational models of purchasing
Contracts and contract management
The future of purchasing management

Course is implemented with in class lectures, self study (literature and assignments), group work (during the lectures) and practical projects.

1. Student recognises the strategic targets of an organisation and procurement, as well as the meaning of cost, risk and value in purchasing management. In addition, they know the basic tools of purchasing management.

2. Student recognises the strategic targets of an organisation and procurement, and knows their connection. They know the meaning of cost, risk and value in purchasing management and the affect to each other. In addition, they recognise the basic tools of purchasing management.

3. Student understands the role of organisation strategy and procurement strategy as a part of strategic management of a business, and knows how they are connected. They understand cost, risk and value in purchasing management, how to use them and their affect to each other. In addition, they understand the basic tools of purchasing management.

4. Student understands the role of different strategies to a business, and knows how to apply the organisational strategy to purchasing strategy. They manage cost, risk and value in purchasing management. In addition, they can apply the basic tools of purchasing management.

Qualifications

The basics of purchasing. Student is able to find information idependently and to prepare reports. They have basic knowledge of the logistics processes.

Further information

Reports that are made with AI-tools are not accepted. The tools can be used as a supportive material, but the texts cannot be copied from AI-tools.

The participants are checked after the first assignment. The students that don't return the first assignment are removed from the course.
