Objective

Purpose of the course: After completing the course, you will understand the different areas of intralogistics management, know how to develop operations, and be able to utilize data and cost calculations in management.

Competencies in the course: You will increase your knowledge and understanding of supervisory work and operational management. You will learn to take various factors into account as part of managing people and operations.

Learning outcomes: You will understand the importance of intralogistics management. You have management and leadership skills for intralogistics management.

Content

In this course, you will learn about the following topics:
management and supervisory work
Development of intralogistics
Data and key performance indicators
Cost management and investment planning
Occupational safety and well-being
Outsourcing

Location and time

JAMK Kampus (Rajakatu 35, Jyväskylä).

Teaching is typically three lessons sessions at JAMK campus. There will be 5-7 sessions during the course.

Materials

Richards, Gwynne. Warehouse management : a complete guide to improving efficiency and minimizing costs in the modern warehouse. 2018 or 2021 published book or e-book.

Lecture materials related to the course can be found in the course workspace. Relevant open-source online material can also be used.

Teaching methods

This course includes lectures and learning assignments. The assignments are described in the course workspace. All assignments are either independent or group work (as described in course workspace) and due dates are confirmed as the course progresses. Some lectures may be in Zoom, but in normal situation lessons are always face-to-face. According to JAMK's policy, class attendance is monitored.

ATTENTION! According to JAMK’s instructions, every student participating in the course must submit the first course assignment within three weeks of the start of the course. If the assignment is not submitted within this schedule, the student in question will be removed from the course.

Employer connections

During the course, the aim is to visit companies whenever possible. Fairs, seminars, webinars, etc. organised during the course can be included in the studies. This will be explained in more detail during the course.

Exam schedules

Exam schedule will be told in beginning of the course.

Student workload

Lectures and other contact studies approximately 15-20 lessons.
Independent studying approximately 115-120 hours.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1 Sufficient: Student demonstrates his / her competence in the subjects dealt with in the course, identifies the topics dealt with in the course and understands their importance for the management of intralogistics.

2 Satisfactory: In addition to the above, the student can describe the topics covered in the course systematically and knows how to apply them.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

3 Good: In addition to the above, the student demonstrates the ability to justify the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between options.

4 Very good:In addition to the above, the student demonstrates the ability to apply what he or she has learned and to evaluate the solutions and their effects analytically.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

5 Excellent: In addition to the above, the student demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the course topics and the ability to structure and analyze the effects of solutions in a broader context. It also demonstrates innovation in applying what they have learned to different situations.

Qualifications

Knowledge of intralogistics operating principles, processes, and technologies.
