Objective
Purpose of the course:
In this course, you will learn to use the basic laws of statics and equations of equilibrium to solve the forces of structures in plane cases. The model structures used are statically determined points, beams, columns, perimeters and trusses from the construction field. You will need the information for dimensioning structures.
Course competences:
Knowledge and understanding of basic mathematics and science at the level necessary to achieve other learning objectives.
Course objective:
In this course, you will learn to use the basic laws of statics and equations of equilibrium to solve the forces of structures in plane cases. You will learn to perform overturning analysis, to estimate the forces acting on a point. You will also learn how to solve support reactions of structures and lattice rod forces. These are also the basic tasks of the course.
Content
Equilibrium equations, Crash analyses, Equilibrium force systems, Support reactions, Cross bar forces
1 cr Newton's laws and particle equilibrium and fall analysis
1 cr Beam/body balance
1 cr Articulated/transverse beam balance and lattice rod forces
Location and time
Contact lessons according to Time Table on the Main Campus.
Teaching methods
The course uses the following teaching methods:
- Lectures ,
- Learning tasks,
Students will receive guidance
- feedback on exams
Responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence applications is encouraged in this course.
The use of artificial intelligence is allowed in the following situations:
- in learning tasks to help solve problems
Employer connections
Will be agreed on the first contact lesson of the course.
Exam schedules
Timing of Exams and re-Exams will be agreed on the first contact lesson of the course.
Completion alternatives
Certification or accreditation is possible as described in the Jamkin Peppi guidelines.
Student workload
One credit point means an average of 27 hours of work. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the way the course is implemented.
-------------------
In this study period, time use and workload is distributed as follows:
Total load: 108 h
Contact lectures: 30 h
Homework that supports learning: 70 h
Assessment of own competence/peer assessment: 8 h
Allocate approx. 6 hrs/week of your own time for this course.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Passed: The student knows and recognizes the topics described in the course objectives and he/she can perform the tasks according to the course objectives: (Equilibrium equations, Rollover analysis, Equilibrium force systems, Support reactions, Cross-bar forces). The student can demonstrate his/her competence by reading the tasks according to the objectives.
Qualifications
Basics of mathematics: solving an equation, solving a right triangle.

Grading methods
- Test,
- Assignments,
- Attendance,
- Self Grading.
Assessment is developmental, continuous, competency-based, high-quality and criterion-referenced, and student self-assessment plays an important role in that.
