Class Format
1. All classes will be held in person on the JAMK campus. Each student is expected to present themselves professionally with a positive and creative mindset.
2. During each class, you will be introduced to a stepped approach of Events Planning where you will learn the foundations, and then develop an understanding of each level to learn how to build a professional events plan. The unique aspect of our class format is to allow each team to apply the learning to a chosen event so as to better learn how event planning works and to identify challenges in events planning.
3. We will consistently use an interactive dialogue format to discuss the application of the events planning model. Your professor will provide a series of custom slides in advance for your reading and learning. Your professor will introduce each topic and discuss highlights at the start of each class with the rest of the class comprising discussions using break-out groups and discussions on the event that each student's team will have chosen to study.
4. Depending on the number of students, cohort teams will be formed in the first week. These teams will work together for the duration of the term to help develop skills of collaboration and study together for the in-class discussion and the applied project.
Applied Project
Depending upon the number of students, students will form into teams at the start of the course. Each team will choose a cultural, sport or tourism event to study that interests all team members. The applied project will require the team to apply the major concepts of event planning to that event based on the theory, and cases taught. Each team will be evaluated in part on a series of short written reports based on the team’s chosen event which will be submitted weekly. Each team will also be evaluated based on an oral presentation to the class in the last week. Each team will have their evaluation of the applied project equally split between written submission and oral presentation. Details will be provided separately to all students for the project content and evaluation details.
Class Involvement
Your ability to learn is based largely on your willingness to collaborate with others from different parts of the world. The world of professional events planning is a significant economic driver and can offer opportunities for employment with companies in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors as well as a business start-up. You will be encouraged to talk, debate, and exchange ideas in class and in the work expected outside of class.
Harjoittelu- ja työelämäyhteistyö
This course is ideally suited for students seeking careers in business management, human relations, public relations, marketing, advertising, media development, and teaching.
Tenttien ajankohdat ja uusintamahdollisuudet
Will be informed by the visiting professor.
Final Exam
The final exam will take place on the last day of classes. It will comprise a take-home exam which will be submitted online on a deadline set by your professor. You will be assessed on your knowledge learned in the course applied to events planning and the applied project.
