Objective

The aim of the course is to increase the understanding of the importance of nutrition as part of well-being and the ability to assess an individual's nutrition and provide nutritional counselling.

By the end of the course, you will be able to explain how nutrition relates to well-being and what are the key challenges related to nutrition. You will understand the principles of individual dietary assessment and evidence-based nutrition counselling and be able to act accordingly in professional interactions in practical counselling situations.

Content

The main focus of the course is on the importance of nutrition for wellbeing. You will learn about the key challenges related to nutrition and the principles of nutritional guidance. You will use reliable and evidence-based information on nutrition in planning guidance situations. You will apply what you have learned in practical guidance situations and evaluate your own practice.

Qualifications

You should have basic knowledge of social and health care service systems and principles of methods in guidance and supporting interaction with individuals in the social and health care.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Passed: You will be able to describe the role of nutrition in wellbeing and identify key challenges. You understand the principles of nutrition assessment and counselling and be able to put them into practice. You will evaluate your own professional interactions in relation to practical guidance situations.

The teaching and learning methods of the course will be based on e-learning. The course is based on learning tasks, online discussions, practical training and workshop work. Self- and peer-assessment and teacher feedback will be used for guidance and feedback.
