Objective

The students are familiar with the musical education and its points of departure for 3 to 5-year-old children; they understand the significance of general and musical development as basis for the planning of musical activity and its implementation. The students are capable of using, adapting and developing diverse work habits and methods in the planning and implementation of musical activity for the above mentioned age group. They understand the significance of study plans as basis for teaching. They understand childhood, early education and other changing, mutual connections in society. They have the readiness for self-evaluation and development in teaching. The students have assimilated the principles of portfolio work.

Content

Goal conscious musical education for 3 to 8-year-old children:
- general/musical development
- musical/ general goals in teaching
- teaching planning taking into account the age and development level of the child (diverse work habits/methods)

Qualifications

The students have completed the course Elements of Music Education - the part concerning early-age music education; are familiar with the main basic factors in music education, with the contents of early age music education, work habits and goals.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass : The students are well acquainted with the musical development of children between 3 and 8 years of age, and with the starting points of musical education as evidenced in the conversations held during the lessons and in their written work. They command the planning and realization of musical activity using and adapting diverse work methods, theoretically and practically. They understand the role of early musical education in society. They show mature self-evaluation and development skills in the demonstrations and exercises. The students are able to function excellently in the study and work milieu as group members, using professional principles.
