Objective

Solfege: the student can sing and write melodies and chords based on modes or major/minor tonality. He/She is able to write and read rhythms, sing and identify intervals by ear and to figure out triadic and seventh-chord progressions. Music School D-course level.

Music theory and harmony:
The student knows Western tonal music's main concepts (intervals, scales, chord analysis and small forms) and is familiar with the principles of voice leading (continuo bass).

Content

Solfege:
Western tonal music's concepts pertaining melody and harmony, aurally, sung and written. Modes and major-minor based melodies and chords, intervals and triad and seventh-chords progressions, written and aurally perceived.

Harmony:
triads and seventh-chords and their inversions, dominant ninth-chord, the most usual transformation chords, diatonic modulation and suspension. Figured bass writing and scale degree and realisation marks. Comprehensive knowledge of voice leading.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass (S):
The students figure out tonal textures from listening and know Western tonal music's basic concepts and voice leading principles. Music shool D-course level.

Fail (0):
The course is failed when the minimal requirements are not met.
