Objective

After completing the course, the student will be able to: Define what health literacy means and identify the factors that influence it. Explain how an organization promotes health literacy and suggest ways to enhance it. Identify known factors and actions that promote brain health. Explain the connection between health literacy and brain health. Critically assess the comprehensibility, reliability, and usability of written, oral, and online information related to brain health and memory services. Apply communication methods that support health literacy to enhance the understanding and utilization of information. Utilize principles of effective communication methods in lifestyle guidance that promotes brain health. Use evidence-based information to implement brain health-promoting practices and to plan, execute, and develop person-centered memory services.

Location and time

The studies allow for completion partly according to your own schedule. SCHEDULED ONLINE STUDY The schedules for the scheduled online teaching can be found in the timetable at https://lukkarikone.seamk.fi/. Timetables are published for the next six weeks. The first six weeks of autumn are published by Midsummer and the first six weeks of spring by Christmas. Timetables may be subject to changes.

Teaching methods

SCHEDULED ONLINE STUDY: The study is conducted online in the Moodle learning environment. Choose also the appropriate options for the study from the following: The study requires participation in scheduled online teaching. The recordings of the teaching sessions are/are not available for later viewing in Moodle. The study includes joint online meetings/pair or group work. The study also includes independent work online. The student familiarizes themselves with the theoretical material, completes online assignments / practice project / exam according to the given instructions. The study requires independent work and scheduling.

Student workload

The workload of the study is designed so that one credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of student work to achieve the learning objectives. The actual time required varies individually, e.g., due to prior knowledge.
