Objective
The students know the history, current state and future visions of occupational therapy. They have an idea about the work and position of occupational therapists in Finland. They know legislation and regulations, which guide the work of occupational therapists and communications and interaction in social and health care work. Students have familiarized themselves with the organizations where occupational therapist can work. The students understand entrepreneurship as one possible work environment of occupational therapists.They know the central concepts of occupational therapy and understand the basics of occupational science. The students know the interaction between the individual, environment and occupation.
Content
History, current state and future of occupational therapy. Work of occupational therapists in Finland. Legislation and regulations in the work of occupational therapists. Central concepts of occupational therapy. Relation of the individual, environment and occupation in human's functional coping. Basics of occupational science.

Advanced expert (4-5)
The student has highly developed and advanced knowledge and a critical understanding of the history, current status and diverse future visions of occupational therapy. He or she has a comprehensive idea of the work and position of the occupational therapist in Finland. The student has been introduced to several organisations in which occupational therapists work, and he/she understands entrepreneurship as one employment option. He/she is familiar with the laws and decrees that guide the work of an occupational therapist. The student is able to spotlight his/her field in forums and with presentation methods that are new and relevant to working life.
The student knows how his/her skills that are improving during the course are associated with the competence requirements of occupational therapy, and he/she is able to perceive how he/she should improve his/her skills in the future from the perspective of working life trends.
The student shows initiative in assuming responsibility for tasks and has an entrepreneurial approach in his/her work. The student is able to assess his/her own competence and development analytically and draw up a development plan for him/herself on this basis.

Improving expert (3)
The student has a good knowledge and understanding of the history, current status and diverse future visions of occupational therapy. He/she has an accurate idea of the work and position of the occupational therapist in Finland. The student has been introduced to organisations in which occupational therapists work, and he or she understands entrepreneurship as one employment option. He/she is familiar with the laws and decrees that guide the work of an occupational therapist. The student is able to spotlight his/her field using presentation methods that are relevant to working life.
The student knows how his/her skills that are improving during the course are associated with the competence requirements of occupational therapy. He/she is able to perceive how he/she should improve his/her skills in the future from the perspective of working life trends.

He/she is familiar with the laws and decrees that guide the work of an occupational therapist.
The student recognises the way in which his/her skills that are improving during the course are associated with the competence requirements of occupational therapy. He/she recognises how he/she should improve his/her skills in the future from the perspective of working life development. The student assumes responsibility for vocational tasks.
In the assessment of written assignments, the assessment criteria for written assignments will apply.
Fail
The student has not mastered the basic concepts of the theme, nor the content matter of the course.
The student does not assume responsibility for his/her activities, nor is he/she able to plan his/her activities. The assessment criteria for written assignments are not met.
