Objective
The object of the course:
The objective is to reach language skills corresponding to level A2.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
After completing this course, you can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies and leisure. You can understand simple texts on familiar topics.
You can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where German is spoken. You can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. You can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
Course competences:
The course prepares and equips you to act and work in an international and multicultural environment.
The learning objectives of the course:
You can apply basic language skills in routine communication situations. You can understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on topics that are familiar to you. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You understand the cultural differences between your home country and German speaking countries.
Starting level: A1.2-A2. Objective: A2-B1 (according to CEFR)
Content
Pronunciation.
Knowledge of culture in German speaking countries (Landeskunde).
Written and spoken German language skills needed in the most common everyday communication situations. Communication and interaction situations e.g. telling about past events, your own interests, experiences, living, studies and work.
Grammar, e.g. present perfect, past tense, subordinate clauses, dative prepositions and two-way prepositions, adjective inflection, genitive case.
Qualifications
Attained proficiency level A1.2 – A2.1 as per the European Framework of Reference (CEFR) https://europa.eu/europass/en/common-european-framework-reference-language-skills.
For example, completion of German for beginners 1 and 2 course (altogether 10 ECTS) or high school B3 language courses 1-4, or equivalent proficiency and understanding.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass:
You demonstrate a basic command of the language in relation to the course contents and objectives. You can apply your language skills in routine speaking situations, although there may be frequent pauses in speech. You understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on familiar topics. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You may still have some faltering with pronunciation, vocabulary and language structures.
Fail:
The level of competence does not reach the minimum requirements, or the assignments and exams of the course have not been successfully completed.
NB! If you need a numerical grade (1 - 5), it can be obtained on a separate certificate. The need for a numerical assessment must be communicated to the teacher at the beginning of the course. After the first assessed assignment or test, it is no longer possible to change the grading scale from pass-fail to a numerical scale.
Further information
The course is well suited for anyone with some basic knowledge in German (level A1.1-A2.1 of The Common European Reference for Languages) and who would like to continue their German studies.
Also suitable as a revision course for students who have attended B3 German courses 1-6 in a Finnish high school and want to maintain their German skills.
