Objective

The student can identify the changes related to healthy aging, as well as common health and functional problems that are threats to older adults wellbeing and functional capacity. S/he understands the health of the elderly. utilize valid and reliable age-specific assessment tools and evidence-based interventions to assess and promote successful aging and functional ability of older adults.

Content

Gerontological Nursing concept and the role nurses in multidisciplinary team.
Elderly people and their families as clients in health care.
The aging process and its impact on the nursing process and nursing.
Assessment of health and functional ability of older persons and evidence based helping methods.
Memory disorders.
special features of pharmacotherapy among the elderly.

The students identify the changes related to healthy aging, as well as common health and functional problems that are threats to older adults' wellbeing and functional capacity. They understand the health of the elderly and utilize valid and reliable age-specific assessment tools and evidence-based interventions to assess and promote successful aging and functional ability of older adults. They recognize the responsibility of nursing care and the role of multi-professional co-operation, in gerontological nursing.
