Objective
In this course you learn play observation methods and the learning difficulties of children. You understand how to support child's participation in play through physical plays
You know the importance of play in supporting child's development and you can use the tools to observe, evaluate, instruct and support play in functional situations. You understand the diversity of children's learning disabilities and how it relates to their play skills.
You understand the possibilities of physical play to support child's participation in play

Content
Definition of play, theories, stages and types of play, instruct and support of play, and meaning of play. Play observation methods. Effects of perceptual, cognitive, linguistic and social relationships connected with learning difficulties. Physical plays supporting perceptual, cognitive and social skills
Teaching methods
Course is conducted in co-operation with Jyväskylä University.
In this course, you study the theory of play, children's learning difficulties and how to support a child's play. We do exercises that support the child’s play. You work independently as a small group implementation to observe a child’s play in a practical situation. As a written assignment, you make a report on the observation of the child`s play situation.
Lectures, practical exercises. Planning and implementation of the play observation and a written report. Attendance at contact lessons is required.

Satisfactory 2 In the play observation assignment, you are able to present relevant observations and play according to the age of the child, but they remain separated. The product is incoherent. The presentation of the assignment fragmented

Good 3. In the play observation assignment, the observations are connected with the observed play situation, the child`s age. The results of the observation, and the combination of the play with the child's age remain limited. You are dealing with the results of observation and the topics presented during the course, but the reasons are lacking. The presentation of the assignment is well structured
Very good 4. In the play observation assignment, you are able to combine observations from the observation situation with your child's age-appropriate play based on a few different perspectives and use concepts in a structured way. The output of observation and the topics presented during the course are argumented. You present and explain the challenges of play and some of the opportunities to support play. The presentation of the assignment is well structured.

5 In the play observation assignment, you are able to combine observations from the observation situation with the play activity of the child's age from a variety of perspectives, and use concepts in a structured way. You will carefully consider and reflect on the output of observation and the topics presented during the course. You present the challenges and opportunities to support the play of a child in need of support in a variety of ways and explain them in detail. The presentation of the assignment is well structured.
