Objective
Material removal manufacturing methods are the most important manufacturing method group for mechanical construction, and knowing them more deeply is essential when operating in the production tasks of mechanical construction. You will learn to work satisfactorily in manufacturing design and development tasks related to cutting work. The development of your expertise begins with an understanding of the manufacturing processes of typical machine building parts manufactured with cutting work. After that, you will learn the tools and techniques by which you can use the manufacturing processes are being developed. You will also learn how to program NC machine tools and how to use them.
Knowledge and understanding:
After the course, you will have knowledge and understanding of the technology, equipment and tools of the cutting work and you will be able to apply this information in the machining of different materials.
Engineering practice:
You are able to choose and use development methods related to cutting work. You will acquire practical skills in the design of machine parts manufacturing.
Content
The chip removal production methods of machine workshops. Chip removal parameters. The production process of workpieces through chip removal. Attaching a component. The development of machining (the processability of components, impact of automation, development of the tool system). The basics of NC technology and NC programming.

Good (3): You have a command of the key topics in the course, such as understanding the methods, equipment, and tools used in machining and their suitability. You are familiar with the perspectives of developing machining operations and can apply them to the improvement of work-shop manufacturing processes. You can create, analyze, and evaluate cost estimates for machined products. You have a basic understanding of NC (Numerical Control) technology and can manually program NC machines.
Very good (4): You have a command of the key topics in the course, such as understanding the methods, equipment, and tools used in machining and their suitability. You are familiar with the perspectives of developing machining operations and can apply them to the improvement of work-shop manufacturing processes. You can create, analyze, and evaluate cost estimates for machined products. You have a solid understanding of NC technology and can manually program NC machines. You can apply these skills critically while evaluating design and development task.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Excellent (5): You master the key aspects of the course, such as knowing the methods, equipment, tools and their applicability areas of chip-forming machining. You know the perspectives of chip-forming machining development and can apply them to the development of workshop manufacturing processes.
You can make cost calculations for machined products while critically analyzing them. You know the basics of NC technology and can program NC manually. You can apply them critically and innovatively in demanding design and development tasks.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Accepted:
You understand the basics and terminology, but you have deficiencies in understanding the key manufacturing and development methods. You can design the manufacture of simple pieces and solve simple development problems.
Qualifications
You have a basic understanding of the most common manufacturing methods in workshops and the machines used in them. You understand how to achieve competitive end-products using different methods. You have a command of the fundamentals of materials engineering and ma-chine drawing.
