Objective

The purpose of the course

You understand the basic phenomena of physics, inorganic and organic chemistry as part of practical applications. You know how to apply them in emerging environmental and energy technology solutions.

Eur-ACE competences

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF THE TECHNOLOGY

You understand the basic phenomena and applications of environmental physics and chemistry.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Your knowledge and understanding of the basics of environmental physics and chemistry is at the level necessary to achieve the other learning objectives of the Energy and Environmental Engineering degree program.

RESEARCH AND LITERATURE STUDY

You have the ability and practical skills to plan and implement experimental studies, interpret data and draw conclusions from it, and the ability to work in a laboratory.

Learning outcome

You can recognize environmental and energy engineering phenomena and solve simple problems related to these phenomena.

Content

Chemical and physical mechanisms of environmental pollution, environmental chemistry and its applications and solutions, process and wastewater treatment, basics of electricity, quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, radiation and sound.

Materials

Kurssilla käytetään opettajien tekemiä videoita sekä pdf-muotoista materiaaleja.

Fysiikan osio pohjautuu Kari Suvannon Tekniikan Fysiikka 2 -oppikirjaan (Edita).

Teaching methods

Kurssi koostuu perinteisestä luento-opetuksesta, itsenäisestä opiskelusta, harjoitustehtävistä, laboratoriotöistä sekä kahdesta välikokeesta.

Laboratoriotyö tehdään Rajakadun kampuksella.

Exam schedules

Kurssin koeaikataulut ilmoitetaan kemian ja fysiikan osioiden alussa.

Student workload

Ohjattua opiskelua 30 h
Kokeet 5 h
Itsenäistä opiskelua 100 h
