Objective

You will diversify your own knowledge of music by participating in various music events, such as concerts or other live music events, guest lectures, doctoral dissertations, master classes, seminars or training days as part of the audience attending the event.

You understand the music events in Central Finland and learn to utilize the diverse concert and event offerings in the region, including the opportunities offered by the Finnish Music Campus. You recognize and are able to choose events that diversify and enrich your own knowledge.

You are able to evaluate your experiences of music events and the concert and event scene in the region in relation to your own musical background.

Content

You attend concerts or other music-related events of different genres or actors that will enhance your knowledge. At the same time, you get to know the range of music events in the Central Finland region.

You will also develop your reflective skills as a music pedagogue or music enthusiast, taking into account the impact of your musical background on your experience of events in the sector and your understanding of what the region has to offer.

Reporting instructions for the course can be found in the course's own Moodle workspace. The instructions are in Finnish but the written assignment of the course can also be completed in English.

Location and time

The Central Finland Korkeakouluviikko takes place from 7 to 11 of April. You choose three concerts of your interest from the Finnish Music Campus concert programme during the week. During and after the week, you will write a learning diary independently.

The concert options are as follows:
-The Finnish Music Campus Spring 2025 Loisto Concert Series will take place during the week. You can choose to follow the Loisto pop/jazz or classical music concerts of your choice. You can watch Loisto concerts stream online or on-site at the Finnish Music Campus.
-Klassista sun päivääsi! is an annual classical music concert series at the Finnish Music Campus. The KSP! concert will take place on Monday 7 April in the Campus' Hannikaissali. The concert can be attended on site at the Finnish Music Campus.

Materials

You write about your own experiences of the concerts. When exploring the offerings of the Finnish Music Campus, you use the Music Campus website and, where appropriate, the Campus' social media channels as a source.

Teaching methods

You choose three concerts from the Finnish Music Campus' spring 2025 concert programme, which will be held during the Central Finland Korkeakouluviikko (from 7 to 11 of April), and you watch them either as a stream online or on-site at the Finnish Music Campus in Jyväskylä (Pitkäkatu 18–22). You write a learning diary about your experiences at these concerts. You also get to know about the study opportunities and events offered by the Finnish Music Campus, which you will also reflect on in your learning diary.

The course is completed with a learning diary written independently.

Attending concerts: 3 h

Independent work (writing a learning diary, familiarizing yourself with the Finnish Music Campus website and social media channels): 24 h

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Approved:

You are able to choose concerts and/or other music-related events that are suitable for you and that deepen your own skills. You are familiar with and you can make use of the concert and event offerings in the Central Finland region and understand what opportunities there are for the audience in the region. You are able to reflect on your experiences of the events in relation to your own instrument or previous hobby.
