Objective

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
You are capable of using a range of reliable assessment methods for studying the preconditions and limitations of the functioning of a client with a neurological condition, in particular the client’s mobility. You are capable of applying evidence-based ways of physiotherapy intervention in functional limitations related to the central and peripheral nervous system. You are capable of utilising assistive technology, virtual environments and robotics to support the physical activity and functional capacity of clients.

Content

CONTENT:
Assessment of the functioning of a client with a neurological condition and the extensive scope of rehabilitation. The opportunities of physiotherapy to exert influence on neurological and cognitive symptoms resulting from nervous system disorders and changes in psychomotorics, such as muscle tone, coordination, attention, perception and communication disorders. Special features of physiotherapy for paediatric and adult clients with a neurological condition. (Preterm born children, CP and attention deficit disorders, ADHD, developmental coordination disorders, children with MMC, muscular diseases and autism. Cerebrovascular disorders, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, MS and spinal cord injury patients as well as patients with neuropathy and peripheral nerve injury)

Exam schedules

The course includes an orientative clinical neuropsychology exam, learning tasks and/or an alternative written exam, the schedule and materials of which are available in the moodle workspace.

Completion alternatives

The recognition of prior learning is not possible as a whole course. If the student has previous higher education level studies related to the topic, the recognition of the units can be discussed with the career tutor.

Adequate (1): Your knowledge of, and skills in, the assessment, physiotherapy and technology related to functional limitations of the central and peripheral nervous system consists of isolated, although relevant, details. Your master basic knowledge and skills related to the subject matter. Your assignments only shows few connections between the matters presented, the discussion is sparse. Literature in the field of physiotherapy has been utilised and references have been marked.

Satisfactory (2): Your knowledge of, and skills in, the assessment, physiotherapy and technology related to functional limitations of the central and peripheral nervous system consists of isolated, although relevant, details. Your assignments shows interpretation of and connections between the matters presented, but discussion remains sparse. Literature in the field of physiotherapy you have been utilised and references marked.

Good (3): You have good knowledge of, and skills in, the assessment, physiotherapy and technology related to functional limitations of the central and peripheral nervous system. You substantiate your actions, seeking to combine and apply your knowledge and skills. In their assignments, you demonstrate an ability to describe and substantiate various subject area phenomena. You make varied and proper use of sources.
Very good (4): You have good knowledge of, and skills in, the assessment, physiotherapy and technology related to functional limitations of the central and peripheral nervous system. You substantiate your actions and creates new solutions. In their assignments, you demonstrate an ability to describe and substantiate various subject area phenomena in a critical manner by way of personal reflection. You make varied and proper use of evidence-based sources.

Excellent (5): You have extensive knowledge of, and skills in, the assessment, physiotherapy and technology related to functional limitations of the central and peripheral nervous system. You substantiates your action and creates new solutions. You make varied and proper use of evidence-based sources.

Basics of Therapeutic Exercise and guiding Physical activity groups, Physiotherapy in metabolic, pulmonary- and cardiovascular impairment.
Wellness Technology and environmental planning.

Further information

The course includes an orientative clinical neuropsychology exam in exam-studio, learning tasks on paediatric physiotherapy and adult neurological physiotherapy and/or an alternative written exam.
