Because the timing of the semester impacts the presentation schedule for the semester, students typically do not receive a syllabus, but will have information presented in Moodle.
Tavoitteet
This course introduces students to aspects related to conflict management, with a particular focus on intrapersonal, interpersonal, within group and between group contexts. Emphasis is made on skills development through simulation and other practices.
IBCOM Communication Skills: You have developed new approaches to communicating with others in conflict scenarios. Some of your newly developed skills will address cultural aspects of human relations.
IBCOL Intercultural Collaboration Skills: You are able to develop and demonstrate conflict resolution skills in international contexts.
IBETH Ethical Conduct: You embrace ethical principles in dealing with others, as exampled by the Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
IBPER Skills for Personal Career Development. You are able to reflect upon your experiences to deepen personal and professional learning, and to embrace those learnings to support your personal and professional development.
IBCRI Critical Thinking: You are able to critically review and analyze information available from academic and professional business sources. You are able to observe, interpret and describe social phenomena associated with human interactions, conflict management and business management in international contexts.
Sisältö
The student becomes familiar with theories pertaining to conflict management in intrapersonal, interpersonal, within group, and between group perspectives. Students apply conflict resolution approaches using Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication approach.The course utilizes appropriate texts and media, psychometric instruments, simulations and individual practice to develop knowledge and expertise pertaining to conflict management.
Aika ja paikka
Because of the interactional nature of this course, it is not suited for online delivery. Thus students should expect to attend each class within the classroom. Sessions will not be recorded.
Oppimateriaalit
Materials will be provided by the lecturer and, when appropriate, guests. In addition to teacher-supplied materials, students will utilize desk research methods to gather materials on their own to support their reflective learning.
Opetusmenetelmät
Dialogic pedagogy will be the principal teaching theory employed. The teacher will introduce theory and practices through which the students will engage themselves and engage with others to explore phenomena and experiences related to conflict, conflict resolution, and contact management. Most of the content will focus on intrapersonal, interpersonal, intergroup, and between-group conflict scenarios.

As a 5-credit course, students should expect to invest 135 hours in both in-class and out-of-class exercises and assignments. Each credit represents 27 hours of class/assignments.

Assessment will based on a written major task assignment, minor tasks, and attendance.

A grade of 3 indicates an average level of attendance and task completion.

A grade of 5 demonstrates strong attendance and participation, and very good responsiveness to tasks.

Grades range from 0 (fail) to 5 (excellent) according to the standard JAMK system.

Individuals tasks typically are graded based on a total of 100 points for the class. Each assignment (as well as portion of the points awarded for engaged participation and attendance) is allotted specific points (accompanying the assignment description in Moodle). At the end of the course, the points accumulated by each student will be translated into the university's scale of 0-5. In this point system, students much earn 45 points to pass the course with a 1; students earning 85 points or more will be awarded a 5.
The exact schedule of out-of-class assignments will be noted at the start of the course.
