Tavoitteet

The object of the course
Events is a dynamic, exciting business sector that is growing both nationally and internationally. In this course, you will gain knowledge how to manage events professionally. After completing this course, you have learned the meaning of the event production process and the significance of events in the service and hospitality industry. This is your first step in developing as an event specialist.

The learning objectives of the course
You understand the significance of the events from the national and international perspective. You know key actors and services in the event production process. You can describe critical success factors in event management. You can identify and plan different phases in events. You know how to make responsible choices in event planning.

Sisältö

The principal contents of this course are (1) Structure of the event business sector, (2) Event production process and phases, (3) Ecological and socio-cultural responsibility, (4) Event financial management.

Aika ja paikka

The course will start on Tuesday Feb 14 0800
The first two weeks of the course will have two lectures per week on Tuesday 0800-10130 and Thursday 1700-1915. After the winter break, there will be one class per week held Tuesdays 0800-1030. The final two weeks of the course shall revert to two classes per week as per the above schedule.

Opetusmenetelmät

Course Objectives:
This course will cover the following content including:
• Examining the relevance of events planning to the world of business including private, public and not-for-profit sectors
• Identifying unique features of events as they pertain to the marketing process
• Learning how to design events
• Investigating the role of competitive positioning, targeting and consumer segmentation
• Learning the components of an event business plan
• Developing event financial forecast for revenues and expenses
• Formulating an event business plan in collaboration with a client from the local community and integrating all of the components of an events business plan

This course is experiential where you shall work in cohort group of 4-5 to create and plan an event. You will learn basic theory and as we learn the theory, you will apply it to the construction of an event business plan.

There will be two small tests during the term and there will be no final exam.

This a course that requires face to face participation working in teams. If a student cannot participate in the lectures and the team work, the course cannot be implemented individually.
