Tavoitteet

The course aims at giving the student a view on what management in modern organizations is on company-, team- and individual level as well demonstrate how the subject has been and is researched. The reflection of the course contents to students´ own experiences and views helps students to start building their own approach of management to aid them in their careers.


By the completion of the course you will be able to:

Skils in Critical and Analytical Understanding IBCRI

- Critically review, analyze and understand information available from academic and professional business sources in management field.

Applied Business Skills IBBUS

- Apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to analyze management challenges and trends to propose or take in action management solutions based on the findings.

Communication Skills IBCOM

- Communicate responsibly, effectively and professionally in English in oral, written and digital formats.

Intercultural Collaborative Skills IBCOL

- Participate in inter- and multicultural settings, demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills such as conflict resolution.

Ethical Conduct IBETH
- Embrace ethical conduct in practice and decision-making. The guidelines of the management action may arise from frameworks such as the Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.




Personal Skills IBPER

Activate personal and professional development by reflecting upon and deepening personal learning to positively affect one’s own career plans.

Sisältö

Models of management, leadership, corporate sustainability and responsibility, visionary and strategic management, budgeting and strategy, organizational structure and culture, managing change, influence and power, motivation, communication, managing teams.



For each content unit there will be processes and analytical tools provided for instantiations of learned models/frameworks and concepts.

A 2 hour lecture per week for the whole course + 2 x 2 hour workshop for split-half groups (1 lecture + 1 workshop per student per week)

Applied Business skills: You show some but narrow skills in analyzing business challenges and trends and proposing managerial actions.

Communications Skills: You are able to transmit to a limited extent your and your team’s ideas and findings in English.

Collaborative Skills: You show some but low-level skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.

ESR skills: You are able to identify and assess some very basic ESR-related issues and discuss superficially their meaningful applications for business management.

Personal Skills: You show some skill in activating personal and professional development by reflecting upon and deepening personal learning in- and out-of-classroom.but the approach lacks width and/or depth.



Satisfactory (2):

Critical and Analytical Understanding Skills: You show some skill in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for managerial action.

Applied Business Skills: Ypu show some but limited skill in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for managerial action but the approach is thin or superficial.

Communications Skills: You are able to get your main message through when presenting your and your team’s ideas and findings in English but improvement would be needed.

Collaborative Skills: You show some skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.

ESR skills: You are able to identify and assess some ESR-related issues and the action related to them and discuss some of their meaningful applications in the field of business management.

Personal Skills: You show average skill in activating personal and professional development by reflecting upon and deepening personal learning in- and out-of-classroom.

ESR skills: You are able to identify and assess deeply and widely the ESR-related issues and t discuss their meaningful applications in management.

Personal Skills: You show average skill in activating personal and professional development by reflecting upon and deepening personal learning in- and out-of-classroom.



Very Good (4) –

Critical and Analytical Understanding Skills: You show excellent skills in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for managerial action.

Applied Business skills: You show skills with merit in analyzing business challenges and trends and proposing practical solutions for managerial action.

Communications Skills: You are able to present your and your team’s ideas and findings in a very good manner in English on a level clearly above average of peers.

Collaborative Skills: You are able to show in a very good manner skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and demonstrate teamwork skills.

ESR skills: You are able to identify on a very good width and depth the ESR-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications in business.

Personal Skills: You show above-average skill in activating personal and professional development by reflecting upon and deepening personal learning in- and out-of-classroom.

Assessment is based on points scored from different tasks
Exams 0-40 pts = 2x0-20 pts per exam (one of the exams needs to be passed with minimum 8 pts out of 20)
Groupwork report 0-15 pts
Groupwork Presentation 0-15 pts
Final Groupwork Task 0-25 pts
Attendance and activity (in-class + online) 0-5 pts

Minimum 45 pts required to pass. 45-54 pts=Grade 1, 55-64 pts=Grade 2, 65-74 pts=Grade 3, 75-84 pts=Grade 4, 85+ pts=Grade 5
