Objective

The aim is to understand the tasks and significance of building services engineering from the perspective of energy efficiency and healthy indoor conditions, and to identify the objectives set for indoor conditions in regulations and recommendations.

You know the main building services equipment, systems, processes and understand their interrelationships. You understand the operating principles and design basics of the most common heating, heat distribution, ventilation, cooling and heat recovery solutions. You know the most common control principles used in building services. You can read the most common building services diagrams and documents.

Knowledge and understanding
You know the objectives of indoor conditions and understand the significance of solutions from the point of view of energy consumption. You understand the operating principles and design basics of the key solutions. You know the most important design principles for building energy solutions.

Applying engineering to practice
You know the guidelines and regulations for solutions and can apply them in computational analysis.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate 1: You know the basic tasks and objectives of indoor climate engineering. You know what kind of equipment and processes are included in indoor climate engineering. You recognize the terminology and the most common diagrams of the field. You can do some computational analyses to size the processes.

Satisfactory 2: You know the main tasks of indoor climate engineering and understand its importance for energy efficiency and indoor conditions. You recognize the key indoor climate engineering equipment, systems and processes. You have an idea of the operating principles of the systems, but grasping the whole is challenging. You can do some computational analyses to size the processes.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3: You know the key building services devices, systems and processes and can interpret the diagrams related to them. You know the objectives set for indoor conditions in regulations and recommendations. You know the key effects of building services on energy efficiency and indoor conditions. You know the key electrical building services systems. You can perform computational analyses of building services processes.

Excellent 4: You understand the impact of building services on indoor conditions and energy efficiency. You know the interaction relationships of the key building services processes and the most common control strategies. You understand the impact of electrical building services systems on safety and energy efficiency. You can perform computational analyses of building services processes.

Excellent 5: You understand the impact of building technology on indoor conditions and energy efficiency. You know the interaction relationships of the key building technical processes and the most common control strategies and are able to analyze the performance of the systems. You understand the impact of electrical building technology systems on safety and energy efficiency. You perform reliable computational reviews for building technical processes.
