Objective

The object of the course
This course serves as an introduction to the sustainability and ethics in sport business. This course is part of the International Sport Business Environment module. You understand the basics of sustainability and ethics in sport and you can utilize this information to develop these matters in sport organisations. You are familiar with the human rights, safeguarding and social aspects of sport organizations. You understand the importance of sustainability, responsibility and ethics in international and multicultural sport organizations.

Course competences
Business Competence: The student has a broad base understanding of the business.

Ethics competence: Take into account the realisation of diversity and accessibility in their actions.

Sustainable development competence: Is able to use information related to their filed in finding, implementing and establishing sustainable solutions and operating models. Understands sustainability challenges, their interdependencies and the various aspects of issues and problems.

The learning objectives of the course
After completion of the course, you can name some major considerations in sustainable and ethical issues in sport organizations. You recognise opportunities offered by sustainable values to support decision making. You are able to address some risks, solve problems and provide knowledge-driven solutions for different areas of sport businesses. You understand the challenges in terms of ethical considerations and sustainable development.

Content

This course is an introduction to sustainability and responsibility in sports.This course covers the topics of human rights, safeguarding and globalization in sport, as well as the sport sociology with social inclusion, ethics, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in sport.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient 1
You attempt to analyze and evaluate sustainable and ethical issues relevant to sport organizations and business. You show some but narrow skills in developing sustainable solutions related to sport business management. You are able to transmit to a limited extent your and your team’s ideas and findings. You show some but low-level skill in participating in teamwork. You are able to name some very basic sustainability considerations.

Satisfactory 2
You have some ability in order to analyze and evaluate sustainable and ethical issues relevant to sport organizations and business. You are able to develop sustainable solutions related to sport business management and you are familiar with current issues in sport ethics and sustainability, but the approach is not supported with argumentation. You are able to get your main message through when presenting your and your team’s ideas and findings. You show some skill in participating productively in teamwork. You are able to name some sustainability considerations related to sport organizations and business and as well as some social aspects of sport.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3
You are able to evaluate different aspects of sustainable and ethical issues and consider possible approaches and outcomes for sport organizations and business. You show ethical skills and critical thinking with justifications in developing sport business management solutions to sport organizations. You are familiar with current issues in sport ethics and sustainability, and you discuss solutions for arising problems. You are able to create and present your and your team’s ideas and findings. You know how to contribute in a productive way in teamwork. You are able to name some sustainability considerations related to sport organizations and business and as well as to identify social aspects of sport.


Very Good 4
You are able to analyze sustainable issues with possible outcomes related to sport organizations and business. You propose well justified solutions for sustainable and ethical challenges related to sport organizations and business. You are familiar with current issues in sport ethics and sustainability, and you are able to utilize ethical skills and critical thinking in your development solutions. You can work and communicate your and you’re your team’s ideas and findings professionally. You show self-critical skills in participating productively in teamwork setting and demonstrate teamwork skills.  You are able to name major ethical considerations of sport organizations and understand value of sustainability in sport business and as well as to identify social aspects of sport.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent 5
You can propose well justified sustainable business solutions on principal level. You have sport sustainable and ethical skills needed in sport organizations and business. You propose well justified solutions for sustainable and ethical challenges related to sport organization and business. You are familiar with current issues in sport ethics and sustainability and you are able to utilize this information in your development solutions. You can argument and present your and your team’s ideas in a convincing manner. You have assessed thoroughly your contribution in teamwork setting and possess teamworking skills. You promote sustainable themes and their meaningful applications for sport organizations and business and the exploitation of social aspects of sport.
