Objective

The object of the course:
Upon completion of the course, the student will have an understanding of current topics in sport social construct.

The learning objectives of the course:
In this course, the student will familiarize themselves with the essence of sport social construct. The student gains insights into different areas like sport sociology, the social construct of sport, social inclusion through sport. The student understands the basic concepts of sport social construct and recognises how to apply this to sport business affairs. Student understands the issues of ethical and social responsibilities and their impact to planning and implementation of sporting activities. Through a proactive participation and interaction with study activities in an intercultural settings student learns to work as team member and in group working practices together with peer students.

Introduction to sociology and social construct of sport, sport management environment, sustainability, cultural complexities in sport and social inclusion through sport.

Qualifications

First year course of Management (JAMK Degree students) or equivalent course of basics of management completed and basic sport management course completed.

The student shows limited ability to analyze and evaluate academic information relevant to sport social construct and aware of themes like sport sociology, the social construct of sport. Student illustrates narrow skills in analyzing the challenges and opportunities to practice in sports organizations. Student is able to transmit to a limited extent his/her and the team’s ideas and findings in English and scarcely contributes to the general discussions inside the study group. Student shows low-level activity and limited skills in participating productively to intercultural learning sessions and teamwork activities. Student can identify and assess very basic ethical issues and discuss superficially their role and significance related to planning and implementation of sports.

Student shows basic ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant to sport social construct and understands the basics of the sport industry environment factors influencing the sport management aspects. Teaching methods

The course follows combined face-to-face and online learning methods where students participate in lectures and other study activities organized in classroom (and/or virtual study environments). Furthermore, a student also completes separate individual assignments as learning diary.

The exam is a conventional exam taking place in the classroom held in the week of 48, re-sits following the weeks 49 and 50. (Exact dates will be confirmed in the beginning of the course)
