Objective

Purpose of the course

The aim of the course is to practice and apply physiotherapy, the theory and practical skills of central and peripheral neuromuscular disorders in work placements.

You can work constructively in a work community and promote your own and the work community's well-being. You can communicate and interact professionally in different situations, and make use of the opportunities offered by technology and digitalisation. You are person centred, promoting the health and well-being of individuals and groups, emphasising the importance of physical activity and exercise. You can work with clients and families and in interprofessional teams and refer clients to another appropriate professional when necessary and facilitating the transition from physiotherapy to another professional. You can establish a reciprocal therapeutic interaction, taking into account the needs of the client, by communicating clearly, accurately, comprehensibly and effectively in a variety of situations, both face-to-face and remotely. You can communicate and document in accordance with legal, national and organisational recording requirements. You can plan and implement a comprehensive, client-centred physiotherapeutic assessment, using the ICF framework and quality of life. You will be able to use interviewing, observation, manual examination, measurement and technology as appropriate to assess the client's ability to work and function. Based on clinical reasoning, you can analyse and evaluate the information you receive and make conclusions from it. You can set client-centred goals and make an evidence-based plan in collaboration with the client / his/her family.

Content

The main focus of the course is to practice physiotherapy in the workplace: establishing a reciprocal therapeutic relationship and communication with the client and his/her family and in interprofessional teams, comprehensive assessment, taking into account the components of the ICF framework, and the application of evidence-based neurological physiotherapy methods for people of different ages with central and peripheral neurological impairments.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You will apply the theoretical and practical skills you have learned in your work placement. You will examine relevant topics related to central and peripheral nervous system dysfunction from a variety of perspectives and highlight key factors influencing them. You will consider the comprehensive perspective of functioning, using the ICF-framework and apply the knowledge in your work. You can work in a good interaction with your client and his/her family and, where appropriate, in interprofessional teams. You are part of a working community and can acquire the skills and practices required by your working community.
