Objective

Aim of the course

The aim of the course is obtaining an understanding of what therapeutic exercise contains and how it can be modified individually in physiotherapy.

Intended learning outcome of the course:

You can justify your choices associated with therapeutic exercises.
You can account for the client's functioning when selecting therapeutic exercise methods.
You can describe the advantages of different therapeutic exercise methods
You can select evidence-based therapeutic exercise methods to promote a client's work ability and functioning as well as to modify the exercises individually. You can instruct the chosen exercises too.

Content

The key content of the course comprises different methods of therapeutic exercise and its practical application: strength, mobility, balance and neuromuscular exercises. Additionally, doing therapeutic exercises in different environments, including at home, in field conditions and in water.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1 You remember and recognise the key concepts and methods of therapeutic exercise. You are able to describe the principles of therapeutic exercise.

2 You understand the concepts of therapeutic exercise and find options for therapeutic exercise methods. You can plan and implement therapeutic exercise, using key principles.

You understand the concepts of therapeutic exercise and find optional methods for it. While using the methods, you produce brief summaries from a single or a few perspectives without adaptations.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

3 You apply what you have learned when examining and using key therapeutic exercise methods from a variety of perspectives and describe key factors that affect them. You describe separate issues without a clear understanding of their causal relationships.

4 You analyse and assess as a coherent whole what you have learned while examining and adapting the key themes of therapeutic exercise from several perspectives. You understand the causal relationships between issues.

5 You can use therapeutic exercices with reasoning and modify exercices for client if needed. You can expand your approach based on your previous competences and experience. You are able to describe, consider and apply different options individually, bringing up your personal expertise. You can consider the client's overall functioning as a part of exercising.

Opintojakson kontaktiopetus toteutuu Rajakadun kampuksella tai altaalla Aalto Alvarissa. Opintojakson tarkka aikataulu ja toteutuspaikat kuvataan Moodle työtilassa.

Teaching methods

Opintojaksolla perehdyt terapeuttisen harjoittelun eri aihealueisiin Moodlessa itsenäisesti ennen lähikontaktiopetuskertoja sekä teet opintojakson aiheesta oppimistehtävän parin kanssa. Opintojaksoon sisältyy käytännön harjoittelua kampuksilla mm. liikunta- ja kuntosalissa sekä altaalla.
