Objective

Aim of the course:
The aim of the course is to improve the student’s understanding of and ability to analyse the link between health, occupation and lifestyle. Theoretical knowhow is applied in genuine group guidance situations.

Learning Outcomes:
After completing the course, you will be able to explain how health, occupation and lifestyles are interlinked. You will be able to assess and justify how lifestyles can be supported by occupational methods, using the knowledge base of occupational therapy and evidence-based intervention programmes. You apply your knowledge in genuine guidance situations where you examine the needs of the clients to be guided and support them in maintaining health-promoting lifestyles. You describe and evaluate the potential of occupational therapy services as part of health promotion operating models. You take sustainable development perspectives into consideration, reflecting on and explaining eco-ethics and the experience of meaningfulness in designing occupational therapy services.

Content

The core content of the course comprises the link between health, occupation and lifestyle. You examine the significance of supporting lifestyles as part of professional action in the healthcare and social services sector from the perspective of occupational therapy, drawing on up-to-date research and taking sustainable development perspectives into account. You learn about evidence-based programmes that support lifestyles, such as Lifestyle Redesign. You advance your competence in motivating the client and familiarise yourself with using occupation as a tool for change. You plan, carry out and reflect on group guidance situations that investigate and support lifestyles, drawing on occupational methods.

Qualifications

Before starting the course, you must have basic knowledge of the theoretical starting points of occupational therapy and the therapy process. You must be familiar with enabling occupation and participation through methods of occupational therapy. You must have competence in client relationship management in the social, health and rehabilitation sector to promote the client's well-being and agency. You must know the starting points and principles of group guidance as well as master the basics of using occupation and creativity in goal-oriented group activities.

You evaluate and justify how lifestyles can be supported by occupational methods, using the knowledge base of occupational therapy and evidence-based intervention programmes. You describe and evaluate the potential of occupational therapy services as part of health promotion operating models. You plan and deliver occupational guidance that supports theoretically justified lifestyles. You demonstrate an ability to evaluate your professional actions, drawing on theory. You take sustainable development perspectives into consideration, reflecting on and explaining eco-ethics and the experience of meaningfulness in designing occupational therapy services.
