Objective

Purpose of the course:
The purpose of the course is to become familiar with the selection and use of reliable, occupation-centered methods for evaluating human occupation and participation and setting person-centered goals.

Clinical reasoning and occupational therapy process enabling participation

Learning outcomes:
You can choose and use observation-based, appropriate methods for assessing the client’s occupation. You understand the importance of the assessment method and its reliability and usability in choosing methods. You can distinguish between individual and other situational factors affecting the client’s occupation and take them into account as part of the assessment. You can observe and describe the quality of the occupation. You report on the results of the assessment both in writing and verbally.

Content

The main content of the course is person- and occupation-centered observation of occupation, evidence-based assessment methods, selection of appropriate assessment methods, examination of assessment results, documentation and reporting of assessment.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You will be able to name, identify and describe observation-based, purposeful methods for assessing clients' occupation. You will identify the characteristics of reliability and usability of evaluation methods and relate these to the reasons for the choice of methods. You identify and describe individual and other situational factors in clients' occupation as part of an assessment. You will be able to observe and describe the quality of activities. You will be able to communicate the results of an evaluation both in writing and verbally.
