Objective

Purpose of the course:
In this course, you will learn the occupation-centered assessment process in occupational therapy and the assessment methods used at the beginning of the evaluation process.

Expertise in theoretical basis of rehabilitation and occupational therapy
Clinical reasoning and occupational therapy process enabling participation

Learning outcomes of the course:
After the course, you will be able to describe the phases of the assessment process in occupational therapy. You can plan the assessment process focusing on occupation and participation. When gathering initial information you will utilize established methods that are based on occupational therapy theories.
You will be able to choose client-appropriate and reliable information-gathering and assessment methods. You can set client- and occupation-centered goals based on the evaluation. You are aware of your way of interacting therapeutically during the assessment process. You have the means to establish and maintain interaction that supports the therapeutic relationship.

Content

The main content of this course is the occupational therapy assessment process and the gathering of the initial information phase of the process. In the course you will learn about goal setting and information gathering with different methods, focusing on interviews and self-evaluations. The focus of the course is on occupation-based process and methods and interpreting the results. During the course, you will also learn about documentation in occupational therapy.
