Objective

The student acquires an overview of importing and exporting practices from the European Union perspective. The student knows the basics of international transportation, delivery terms, international trade agreements, export and import customs procedures and their documentation. The student understands the role of the exporter and importer in fluent international deliveries. The student is able to communicate the concepts of importing and exporting and is able to apply acquired knowledge to real-life situations.

Content

International transportation modes and trade agreements, Incoterms, customs formalities, principles of export pricing, export and import documentation, and calculation of import duties and taxes.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1= The student knows the basic importing and exporting practices but he/she fails to apply the knowledge to real-life situations or to communicate the concepts in an effective manner.

2= The student knows the basics of importing and exporting and is familiar with the basic concepts. He/she is able to apply the knowledge to real-life situations to some extent. The student is able to present the results but the conclusions are incomplete.

3= The student knows the concepts of importing and exporting comprehensively and is familiar with all main rules and regulations as well as risks and possibilities of importing and exporting for the individual firm. He/she is able to apply acquired knowledge to real-life situations and is able to present the results in an effective way.

4= The student applies concepts related to exporting effectively. He/she is able to independently collect, apply and deliver information from versatile sources and is able to solve real-life situations. He/she understands the risks and impacts of importing and exporting on the individual firm and displays good problem solving skills.

5= The student possesses advanced skills in importing and exporting concepts and customs procedures. He/she is able to collect, combine and apply information in order to analytically study different courses of action in order to make credible decisions related to importing and exporting. The student displays excellent problem solving and decision making skills. The student demonstrates the ability to apply acquired knowledge to real-life situations with superior communications skills.
