Objective

The student is aware of and understands the international aspects of Global Mergers and Acquisitions. Students will also acquire a basic understanding of how to deal with the specifics of Global Mergers and Acquisitions.

IBCRI Skills in Critical and Analytical Understanding
Critically review, analyze, and understand the information available from academic and professional business sources in the context of Global Mergers and Acquisitions:
• To understand the concept of M & A success or failure
• To understand the need to identify the sources of failure
• To learn about the 5-stage model of the M & A process
• To gain an overview of the important issues at each stage
• To understand the interconnected nature of the different stages

The course helps students to view M&A as a process, rather than a transaction, which requires insights from a number of disciplines to understand and effectively carry out. It considers that this process is a multi-stage one and that a holistic view of the process is necessary to appreciate the inter-stage links and develop effective value creating M&A strategies. To develop this holistic view, the course draws upon multiple perspectives developed by scholars in different disciplines. The course seeks to make students aware of risks and potential problems in the M&A process. Because of the increasing importance of M&A in individual countries, in regions, and across the World, the course deals with the above issues from an international perspective. The course seeks to provide a balanced approach to M&A drawing upon the conceptual, empirical, and practitioners perspectives.
