Objective

The student understands the meaning of media for children and young people's everyday lives. She/he knows the key concepts and principles of media education. The student has a basic knowledge of the different forms of media and the opportunities it offers to support children and young people's growth, development and learning. Students will be able to support parents in media education. She/he understands the special needs of the child or young person's chances to use information technology for the supporting development and rehabilitation. Students are motivated to develop and use the potential of ICT to working with children and young people.

Qualifications

The students know the basics of computer, tablet, smart phone and internet use. They know the basics of the growth, development and learning of children and youngsters.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student understands the meaning and role of media for children and young people's everyday lives in very good way. She/he knows the key concepts and principles of media education. The student has a basic knowledge of the different forms of media and the opportunities it offers and utilize to support children and young people's growth, development and learning. In written assignments, he/she shows excellent capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and to consider them critically. The student follows the reporting instructions of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
Very good (4): The student understands the meaning of media for children and young people's everyday lives in very good way. She/he knows the key concepts and principles of media education. The student has a basic knowledge of the different forms of media and the opportunities it offers to support children and young people's growth, development and learning. In written assignments, he/she shows excellent capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and to consider them critically. The student follows the reporting instructions of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
Good (3): The student understands the meaning of media for children and young people's everyday lives. She/he knows most the of key concepts and principles of media education. The student understands of the different forms of media and the opportunities it offers to support children and young people's growth, development and learning. In written assignments, he/she shows capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and to utilize sources. The student participates in contact lessons and the conversations in online environment and he/she completed the given assignments. The student follow the reporting instructions of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
Satisfactory (2): The student understands the meaning of media for children and young people's everyday lives. She/he knows partly the key concepts and principles of media education. The student has a basic knowledge of the different forms of media.In written assignments, he/she shows modest capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and he/she utilizes sources very little. He/she completes the agreed assignments satisfactorily. The student follows only partly the reporting instructions of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
Sufficient (1): The student understands the role of media for children and young people's everyday lives. She/he knows partly the key concepts and principles of media education. The student has a basic knowledge of the different forms of media. In written assignments, he/she shows modest capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and he/she utilizes sources very little. He/she completes the agreed assignments satisfactorily. The student follows only partly the reporting instructions of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
