Objective

The student masters the most essential parts of Cisco Systems networks: concepts, used technical implementations and general topics connected to network structure.

In addition, the student masters the principles of Cisco Systems network design and is able to design suitable network protocols based on requirement specifications taking into account restrictions.

Content

The course comprises the contents of Cisco Networking Academy program’s Cisco Certified Networking Associate certificate for the third (CCNA3) and the fourth (CCNA4) semester.
The topics studied in the course are virtual area networks and their loop detection protocols, first hop redundancy protocols, virtual circuits and tunneling, serial port connections and wide area networks.

Qualifications

Layered structure of telecommunication. Knowledge of digital technology e.g. binary and hexadecimal conversions. The basics of design with Internet protocol versions 4 and 6. IP routing. Virtual local area networks. Ethernet local area network, e.g. address resolution protocol.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent 5: The student is able to design and implement a scalable network. The student is able to choose the correct technologies and validate the choice well. The student knows local and wide area network technologies and is able to apply them.

Very good 4: The student is able to design and implement a scalable network. The student is able to choose the correct technologies and validate the choice. The student knows local and wide area network technologies well.

Good 3: The student is able to implement a scalable network. The student is able to choose the correct technologies and partly validate their choice. The student knows local and wide area network technologies.

Satisfactory 2: The student is able to implement a sclable networkand understands the basics of local and wide area network technology.

Sufficient 1: The student Opiskelija knows the implementation of a scalable network partly. The student implements and understands the basics of local and wide area network technologies. .

Fail 0: The student is not able to implement a functioning network. The student Opiskelija ei osaa toteuttaa toimivaa verkkoa. Opiskelija knows weakly the basics of local and wide area network technologies.
