Objective

In the course, you will learn about a comprehensive examination of the pig farm, especially from the point of view of production planning and development. The student knows the importance of pig farming in Finland. The student recognizes responsible pork production and knows the nutrients and water requirements of pigs in the different stages of production. The student knows the recording requirements set for the industry, and recognizes the hallmarks of a healthy pig in theory.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Can describe the operation of a pig farm, search for research information related to pig production and know the most important players in the field. Knows the requirements for the production environment of animals and the work environment of keepers. Can describe the pig farm's fodder production and manure use.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Can assess the development needs of a pig farm and the applicability of research information in pig production. Can use feeding, health care and breeding plans. Can evaluate the feed production and manure use of a pig farm.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Can develop a pig farm by applying research information in cooperation with industry players. Can interpret the feeding and health care plan and use them to develop pig production. Can analyze changes in the operating environment.
