You can - describe the function of the equine digestive system and its importance for health and welfare and apply this knowledge to feed planning - identify the causes of digestive disorders and prevent them through proper feeding and feeding practices - assess the nutritional value of different feeds and their suitability for the needs of different horses - assess the individual nutritional needs of the horse and formulate feeding plans that meet the needs of the horses, taking into account feed availability and feeding practices - evaluate and, if necessary, modify feeding plans

Content

- Nutrients and feedingstuffs for horses - Digestive system of the horse - Nutritional requirements of different groups of horses - Feed planning

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

You can - identify the basic features of the horse's digestive system, but there is a lack of application to feed planning - identify some of the causes of digestive disorders - identify some feed characteristics, but evaluation and application to horses' needs is superficial - make a superficial assessment of the horse's nutritional needs - make simple feeding plans and identify needs for modification of feeding plans which cannot be carried out independently

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You can - describe the function of the equine digestive system and understand its importance for health - apply knowledge at a basic level of feeding planning - identify the most common causes of digestive disorders and suggest correct feeding practices to prevent them - assess the nutritional value of feeds and select appropriate feeds for the needs of different horses in general - assess the individual nutritional needs of the horse and formulate feeding plans to meet those needs, taking into account feed availability and feeding practices - assess the effectiveness of the feeding plans and make any necessary basic adjustments

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

You can - accurately describe the functioning of the digestive system and understand its broad role in well-being - apply a wide range of research findings to feed planning - comprehensively identify the causes of digestive disorders and plan and justify appropriate feeding practices to prevent them - accurately determine the nutritional value of feed and select and justify the suitability of feed for the individual needs of different horses - accurately assess the individual nutritional needs of the horse and make informed and practical feeding plans that take into account needs, availability and feeding practices - critically interpret feeding plans and make justified changes based on the horse's welfare and health status
