Objective

The students know the principles of the paper manufacture process from the pulping process to finishing, and can design process controls and adjustments using the tools of system producers. They can read the descriptions of the paper manufacturing process and the functional block figures of an automation system process station, and make necessary changes to them. They can design sequence controls for the water process of automation laboratories.

Content

The central contents cover the automation of the paper manufacture process: the pulping process, paper machine wet end controls, short circulation, dry end controls; paper finishing by coating, supercalendering; slitting, handling of small rolls. Quality measuring regulations and special measuring. The course includes lab assignments with automation laboratory hardware and software.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of automation systems and process technology

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters the paper manufacture processes and their automation controls and measurements and can apply the knowledge and skills to automation design.

Good (3): The student has achieved the basic learning objectives of the paper manufacture processes, automation controls, measurements and their automation design.

Satisfactory (1-2): The student is familiar with the paper manufacture processes, automation controls, measurements and their automation design, but the skills to apply the knowledge are insufficient.
