Objective

The students know the basics of the power electronics used in converters, e.g. structures and operating principles of commutated rectifiers and inverters. They know the components and devices of electric drives. They are able to size the components of constant and variable speed drives for various applications, such as pumps, blowers, conveyors and lines. They are familiar with the bus solutions used in the control. They know the most common protection and control methods. They are able to parameterise and set up electric drive devices and equipment. They know the latest techniques used in electric drives and are able to follow the development in this field.

Content

- power electronic components, e.g. semiconductor devices used in converters

- device parameters and set-ups

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of electrical power engineering and electric machines

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters in addition to the basics related to the components of constant and variable speed drives their protection and control methods. The student can apply the knowledge and skills acquired for example when sizing and selecting the devices.
Good (3): The student masters the basic structures and uses of the components of constant and variable speed drives and is familiar with their control and protection methods.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student is familiar with the basic structures and uses of the components of constant and variable speed drives.
