Objective

Students are able to estimate the key factors affecting the wellness and health of the most important farm animals. Students are able to determine the conditions for various animals according to their production phase and natural need. Students are able to assess the impact of environment on the life of farm animals and the quality of products obtained from livestock.
Students know the most common livestock diseases, principles of disease prevention and can describe the principles of livestock health care.

Legislation concerning animal husbandry
Animal wellness guidelines and recommendations
Development of young animals
Specific characteristics of production stages in terms of wellness
Monitoring the success of feeding in terms of health and wellness.
The basics of natural behaviour of various production animals.
The characteristics of healthy animals
Diseases and their prevention
Pathogens and resistance
Health care programs

Qualifications

Knowledge of livestock feeding and breeding.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

- Student with basic skills (1-2)
o Students are familiar with the basics of livestock wellness and behaviour and with the basics of their health care.

- Developing learner (3-4)
o Students can independently assess the wellness and health factors affecting livestock in farms and are able to assess the effects of health on production.

- Expert performer (5)
o Students are able to independently apply their skills in a variety of farm circumstances and know how to develop the practices in a farm regarding livestock wellness, care and health.
