Objective

The students know the basic concepts of forest measurement. They master the measurement of wood and stand, the spreadsheet calculation of measurement results on stand level, and can utilise forest plans and maps. The students know the factors affecting the value of forest and the most important methods of value determination, as well as being able to count the value of forest.

Qualifications

The students know the basic theory and methods of forest regeneration and cultivation, as well as the essentials of the habitat classification of forests.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Inexperienced performer 1-2
The student knows the basic concepts of forest measurement and can measure the indicators of an individual tree and forest plot. They can calculate tree volume and interpret forest plans. They can use spreadsheet software for calculation. They know the factors affecting forest value with different methods.
Developing performer 3-4
In addition to the aforementioned, the student can determine the cubic volume of a stand and its distribution of wood species using a point sampling device. The student can assess sustainable forest felling and management needs in different types of stands, and are able to make justified proposals for measures at stand level when updating a forest plan.
Competent performer 5
In addition to the aforementioned, the student can manage a farm’s forest as a whole and perceive the impact of different measures on the future. They can assess the value of a forest holding and its value increment.
