EU Subsidies for Agriculture and Their ApplicationLaajuus (5 cr)

Objective

The students know the goals and methods of EU and national level agricultural and rural policy and can participate in agricultural policy debates.
The students are familiar with the various forms of subsidy for agriculture (CAP, LFA, environmental and national subsidies), their conditions, the application process, and the monitoring of the subsidy. They can fill in subsidy applications for farms of various production lines and calculate the amount of subsidy. They can guide agricultural entrepreneurs at different stages of the application process.

The goals and methods of EU and national level agricultural and rural policy, the forms of subsidy for agriculture, the conditions for subsidies, the application process and monitoring of the subsidy, subsidy administration.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Inexperienced performer 1-2
The student masters the basics of the agricultural subsidy system, can fill in subsidy applications and calculate the direct subsidy which an individual farm receives.

Developing performer 3-4
In addition to the aforementioned, the student masters the subsidy system profoundly enough to be able to provide counselling to individual farm entrepreneurs on matters related to the filling in of subsidy applications.

Competent performer 5
In addition to the aforementioned, the student masters the perspective of subsidy monitoring. He/she knows the present goals and means of agricultural and rural policy and can anticipate future trends, as well as being able to participate in agricultural and rural policy debates.
