Objective

The student knows the history of rehabilitation from its start to present day. The student has learned the values, ethics, understanding of human beings and basic concepts related to rehabilitation. The student understands the importance of and reasons for rehabilitation from the viewpoint of both the individual and society. The student understands the importance of different fields of science and evidence-based research as a part of rehabilitation. The student knows the basic premises for rehabilitation for different clients, groups, families and communities, the factors that lead to a need for rehabilitation, as well as the objectives and contents of the rehabilitating.

Content

History of rehabilitation. The values, ethics, understanding of human beings and basic concepts related to rehabilitation. The rehabilitation policy. The importance of rehabilitation from the viewpoint of both the individual and society. Factors that lead to a need for rehabilitation in various ages and in different disease-disability groups and other target groups. Rehabilitation as a multidisciplinary phenomenon. Evidence based rehabilitation.

Qualifications

First year’s common social and health studies.

5. The student is well familiar with the historical and societal developments of rehabilitation. The student is able to diversely describe the starting points of rehabilitation and factors impacting the need for rehabilitation. The student is able to excellently justify the significance of rehabilitation values, ethics and human conceptions in rehabilitation. The student masters excellently the basic concepts of rehabilitation and understands the significance of rehabilitation for the individual and society. The student is able to search for and apply new relevant information widely in learning tasks. The student is able to explain the significance of the different sciences and demonstration-based research in rehabilitation.
