Objective
Student
• understands the concepts of work ability, functional capacity, and to identify the remaining capacity and the importance of functional capacity rehabilitation
• understands the development and changing of the ability to work and function during different stages of life, and the individual, communal and social factors that influence them.
• can use different methods for assessing the ability to work and function (observation, interview, testing and measurement) appropriately and justifiably in different situations involving the assessment and monitoring of service and rehabilitation needs in different operating environments and as part of multi-professional work.
• can assess the overall situation of a rehabilitation client based on the assessment results received and also for the service and rehabilitation needs experienced.
• can set individual rehabilitation goals together with the rehabilitation client, his/her family and/or a multi-professional team as well as monitor their achievement.
• understands the significance of the assessment and the results received therein for the overall assessment of rehabilitation needs and rehabilitation process.
Content
• The development of the ability to work and function and changes in various stages of life as well as influencing factors.
• Reliable, appropriate and systematic assessment of the ability to work and function as a tool in multi-professional work.
• Methods for assessing the ability to function of children, young people, adults and elderly rehabilitation clients (assessment of measured and experienced ability to function) according to the ICF framework. (Toimia database)
• Assessment of activeness, participation, quality of life and well-being as part of the work of a rehabilitation counsellor.
• Setting rehabilitation/self-rehabilitation goals (GAS method).
Qualifications
The student recognice the social and healthcare service system and understands and actively follows the change taking place in the system. He/she acts in an ethical and client-oriented manner and has mastered the basics of client work. He/she knows the basics of the promotion and guidance of health and well-being. He/she has mastered the starting points of his/her professional field based on those basics.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Pass: The student can use the ICF framework as a basis for methods for assessing the ability to work and function of different clients and/or client groups. He/she knows the principles of reliable, justified and systematic assessment and understands the significance of the assessment results for the starting of the rehabilitation process. He/she has mastered the principles of the GAS method and can set individual and measurable rehabilitation goals together with the rehabilitation client, his/her family and/or multi-professional team. The student can combine the ICF framework, the Toimia database and GAS methods into an appropriate and client-oriented package.
