Objective
• The student understands the premises for people’s/client’s civil, social and welfare rights.
• The student specialises in guidance and counselling of clients and planning and implementation of each client's services according to the principles of social rights.
• The student knows the regulations pertaining to the rights and position of social service clients and learns how to apply these in the assessment of service needs and in service operations.
• The student has sufficient basic knowledge of social security and the social work tasks that a Bachelor of Social Services takes part in.
• The student has the basic skills and knowledge to use and apply information, especially in tasks related to social assistance security, social rehabilitation and service counselling in the areas of adult social work and services for the disabled.
• The student is able to apply and assess different theories, approaches and methods in client work.
Content
The basic premises for social rights, social risks
• Social security and social services legislation
• Being a client and legal protection
• Applying the Act on the Status and Rights of Social Welfare Clients in the client process and appeals
• The reasons for social assistance and rehabilitative occupational therapy
• Social counselling and service guidance in social work targeting adults and services for the disabled
• Providing information, counselling and guidance.
Qualifications
The student is able to assess his/her own actions from the viewpoint of professional ethics. The student demonstrates a command of the basics of interaction. The student is able to take part in professional interaction. The student has a broad knowledge of the service system that supports wellbeing and overall social security and the legislation related to this system.

The student actively participates in contact teaching and takes responsibility for their own studies. The student demonstrates creative and innovative problem solving skills. The student is able to critically, diversely and constructively review and assess their own expertise, values and attitude when providing guidance and counselling to a client from the viewpoints of both social rights and the client. The student is able to use various media to distribute information they have gathered on social rights, basic security and social counselling. The student knows how to utilise their expertise in interactive situations in a structured and constructive manner. The student knows the regulations pertaining to the rights and position of welfare clients and learns how to apply these in the assessment of service needs and in service operations.
The student has sufficient basic knowledge of basic security and the social work tasks that a Bachelor of Social Services takes part in. The student knows how to apply information especially in tasks related to social assistance, social rehabilitation, service counselling and adult social work. The student is able to apply and assess different theories, approaches and methods in client work. The student has followed the JAMK reporting instructions as well as timetables.
