Objective
The students understand the following concepts: structure of fibre, paper and paper web. They know what raw materials, additives and fillers are used in papermaking. They know the basics of the production process of fiber-based materials and the quality requirements of the end-use of the paper. They understand the structures of the machines and equipment of the paper and board making lines and their significance in the papermaking process. They understand the management of the paper and board properties in view of the structures of the machines and learn to know the machine concepts of the most common paper grades.
Content
Manufacture of mechanical, chemical and deinked pulp, treatment of pulp, main processes of a papermaking machine, paper and board grades, additives and fillers, end-use requirements. structural sections of a papermaking line from the pulp treatment systems to roll packing.
