Objective

You are able to apply knowledge related to learning and curriculum work in your teaching. You know the basics of your own main instrument and the most important guidance and evaluation methods included in them, as well as the materials of the basic studies of basic education in the arts, and you know how to apply these in your work. You know how to plan and implement teaching situations also in distance education. You know how to use appropriate audio and video recorders in your teaching. You understand your students' individual learning processes and are able to apply your knowledge and skills in guiding the learning of different students in individual teaching situations. You can evaluate your own and others' pedagogical skills constructively and realistically. You understand the ethics of the teaching profession. You know how to produce learning material for an online learning environment and you are familiar with the digital learning games available for your own instrument.

Competences: Competence in learning and information management, competence in creative music production, competence in guiding learning

Content

In the course, you will study the basics and technique of your instrument, as well as ergonomics. You will familiarize yourself with key learning materials and guidance and assessment methods, the curriculum and goals of basic education in the arts, and the guidance and assessment of different learners. You will learn to plan, implement and manage typical individual teaching situations in compliance with the teacher's professional ethics also in distance learning. You use appropriate audio and video recorders in your teaching. You produce learning material for the online learning environment and familiarize yourself with the digital learning games available for your own instrument. You monitor and peer-evaluate the teaching practice of other students, as well as monitor the teaching of teachers working in the profession.

Ohjaavan opettajan tunnit 10-20h, opetusharjoittelun seuraaminen ja vertaisarviointi 25h, seminaarit 10-20h, itsenäinen työskentely 40-50h, ammatissa toimivien opettajien opetuksen seuraaminen 15h, portfoliotyöskentely 5h, yhteensä 135 h

You know how to plan, implement and independently evaluate teaching lessons and the skills of your own students, taking into account the individual learning processes of different learners. You know how to plan and implement teaching also as distance learning. You are able to evaluate your own actions in a teaching situation and bring out areas for development and strengths and create a plan to strengthen your own development areas. In your teaching, you demonstrate that you are able to apply professional work ethics. In the peer assessment, you demonstrate that you know how to give realistic and constructive feedback on the teaching work of other students. In your learning assignments, you demonstrate that you have mastered the basics of your instrument, the key learning materials for basic studies in technology, ergonomics and music. You know how to use suitable audio and video recorders in your teaching, you know how to produce learning material for an online learning environment and you are familiar with the digital learning games available for your own instrument.

Qualifications

You have familiarized yourself with the basics of music education. You know the key principles of learning music and interaction in teaching situations. You are familiar with teaching music and the work of a music pedagogue at a general level, and you have the skills for communication and working in a group to achieve common goals. You know how to use online learning environments in your studies.
